Dear Partners in Ministry,
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:9
Many years ago I read a book entitled When God Doesn’t Make Sense by James Dobson. The book discussed many difficult circumstances which could produce questions in one’s mind regarding God’s plans and leadings. God allowed me to understand several years ago that His plans are not always my plans yet His timing is perfect.
Kristy has been pregnant now for almost 24 weeks, and we are looking forward to having our son, Elijah Ray Applegate, enter into the world. We have been using one of the best mid-wives and high-risk delivery doctors in Uganda for Kristy’s check-ups over the last several months. On April 26th everything checked out very well, but on May 1st there was a drastic change in blood pressure. Since then there has been a steady incline in blood pressure readings and protein levels. As of this week, blood pressure readings are in the 150/100 range. These are classic symptoms of toxemia, and the doctor feels there is a good possibility the baby will need to be taken at 28 weeks. Since there are no facilities in Uganda for handling such events, both the mid-wife and doctor have insisted that we return to America immediately.
It was difficult to make the decision to temporarily leave the field. We had set forth many plans and goals that we wanted to have accomplished in the ministry during this time. We realize though that God makes no mistakes, and we are trusting Him to lead us each step. Keith Stensaas will be helping us continue to carry on with projects in Uganda that need to be completed concerning the school and Bible college.
The Lord has answered our first prayer in allowing us to obtain airline tickets for just under $5100 total, which is a very reasonable price for such short notice. We are still asking God to show us a place to live, a vehicle, and a doctor/hospital, for we know He already has the details planned.
We are flying from Uganda on May 17th and are scheduled to arrive in Kansas City on May 18th. Current plans are to return to Uganda the first week of October.
We look forward to seeing how God will provide for all our financial needs during this time.Thank you for your prayers.
The verse God has given Kristy through this time is Psalm 18:30, 32: “As for God, his way is perfect …It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.”
In His Service,
Tony & Kristy Applegate
