Church Planting in Uganda

Starting in 2017 God moved in our hearts again to help start another Independent Baptist church just outside of the capital city of Kampala in the town of Namugongo. We are partnering with the Dan Dwire family, and we both are very eager to see how God will grow this new church through our two families. I will be mentoring and teaching at East Africa Baptist College located in the capital and will also be traveling throughout the country to encourage and teach Ugandan pastors. It was very difficult to leave Mbira, especially for our children who basically grew up in the village, but we are excited about the new opportunity the Lord is opening. With two other missionary families now leading in Mbira we are confident that the work there can continue for God’s glory.

About Us & History

Kristy and I began our journey to Uganda in 2002. While in Uganda for ten months we fell in love with the people and the culture, and God confirmed to us that we were to come back permanently and help missionary Keith Stensaas in the town of Masaka.

In 2005 we arrived in Masaka and for the next 6 years helped in Masaka Independent Baptist Church (MIBC). Part of my ministry included preaching, teaching in Masaka Independent Baptist College, administrating a Christian school with 30 orphan students, helping start several more churches in Masaka District, and heading up the children’s ministries of MIBC.

The G.R.A.C.E. Project

In 2007 Kristy and I began the G.R.A.C.E. (God Rescuing African Children from Evil) Project.

John Jones Kalanzi and his wife Harriet were an essential part of the day-to-day operations of the G.R.A.C.E. Project which helped orphans understand what it means to live the Christian life. Street children and the children in the Masaka town were given weekly instruction in the Bible and also taught how to be effective leaders and examples in their communities.

The G.R.A.C.E. project was moved to Mbira Village in 2011 as God prompted JJ and me to begin a church there. At first, 7 acres were purchased and then the Lord blessed with another 8 acres.

The Christian school, along with the orphan boarding section, were moved to the 15 acres.

We gave glory to God as the ministry grew in the next 6 years to more than 150 in the church, 80 in the orphan housing, and 300 in the elementary, junior high and high schools.
