History - In 2006, God impressed on Tony Applegate to help the poor and destitute children of the Masaka and Rakai districts in Uganda, East Africa. While in America, through a God-ordained meeting with a retired Christian business man, a plan was orchestrated to work towards establishing an orphan ministry through the local village church, Masaka Independent Baptist Church. With the help of JJ Kalanzi and his wife Harriet, the search for orphaned children progressed.
At the end of 2007, the buildings were finished for Grace Christian School and Grace Orphan Boarding. 30 orphans had been signed up and prepped for a glorious change in their lives. In February of 2008, Grace Christian School and Grace Orphan Boarding began. Grace Street Kids had humble beginnings. JJ Kalanzi had such a burden for these homeless children that he prayed for several years for God to open a way to begin helping to meet some needs. We began with giving a meal to 50 street kids every Friday at lunch. A faithful handful have been saved, baptized, and discipled. They consistently attend church and help in the ministry.
