Facts About The End Times

  • Death – The end of physical life through the separation of soul and body. (James 2:26)
  • Heaven
    • The dwelling place of God (Deuteronomy 26:15; Psalm 2:4; Isaiah 66:12; Matthew 6:9)
    • The dwelling place of departed Saints (Luke 23:43; II Corinthians 5:8; Philippians 1:23; I Thessalonians 4:14)
  • Hell
    • Sheol – used 65 times in the O.T. –“grave, hell, pit”
    • Hades – used 10 times in the N.T. – “place of punishment” (Matthew 11:23; Luke 10:15; 16:23), “state of death” (Matthew 16:18; Acts 2:27)
    • Gehenna – used 12 times in the N.T. – “eternal punishment” “It describes the punishment connected to the final judgment, a punishment that has eternal duration not annihilation.” (Matthew 23:15, 33; 25:41, 46)
    • Unquenchable Fire – (Matthew 3:12; Mark 9:43, 48)
    • Furnace of Fire – (Matthew 13:42, 50)
    • Outer Darkness – (Matthew 8:12; 22:13)
  • Return of Christ
    • Mentioned more than 300 times in Scripture, with entire chapters given to the discussion. (Mark 13; Luke 21)
    • Christ’s return will be a literal, physical event. (Acts 1:11)
    • Christ’s return will be comfort to His followers. (John 14:1-3)
    • Christ’s return will be unknown. (Matthew 24:36, 42; 25:1-13)
    • Christ’s return will be anticipated by believers. He will bring them to Heaven and transform their mortal bodies to immortal. (Philippians 3:20-21; I John 3:2)

  • Resurrection of the Dead
    • Hope of the Resurrection is taught in the Old and New Testaments. (Psalm 17:15; 49:15; Isaiah 26:19; John 5:28-29)
    • Resurrection is foundational to the Christian Faith. (I Corinthians. 15)
    • Resurrection was at the heart of much New Testament preaching. (Acts 2:31; 4:2, 33; 17:18, 32; 23:6, 8, 24)

  • Judgments

  • Eternal State
    • Unbelievers will continue in an eternal state of torment. (Matthew 8:12; 13:41-42, 49-50; 22:13; 24:51)
    • Satan and his angels will continue in an eternal state of torment. (Revelation 20:10)
    • Believers will enjoy eternal fellowship in Christ’s company. (John 14:2-3)
    • Believers’ eternal dwelling place will be a new heaven and a new earth. (Isaiah 65:17-18; Revelation 21:1-22:5
