The Person of Christ

  • Christ’s Humanity - Must be noted that Christ had a human body YET WITHOUT SIN. (Hebrews 4:15)
  • Born of a Virgin – (Matthew 1:23; Isaiah 7:14)
  • Body of Flesh and Blood
    • Characteristics of a normal baby – (Luke 1-2)
    • Recognizable as a Jew – (John 4:9)
    • Suffering of a human – (John 19:1, 19:18)
    • Normal Human Development – (Luke 2:52)
    • Characteristics of a Human Hunger – (Matthew 4:2)
      • Tired – (John 4:6)
      • Thirsty – (John 4:7)
      • Wept – (John 11:34-35)
      • Compassion – (Matthew 9:36)
    • Had human names
      • Son of David – (Matthew 1:1)
      • Jesus – (Matthew 1:21)
  • Christ’s Deity – “He is declared, in the most express manner possible, to be all that God is, to possess the whole fullness of attributes which make God God.” B.B. Warfeild
  • Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the second person of the Godhead – (Psalm 2:7; Daniel 3:25; Matthew 16:16)
  • Jesus Christ has eternally existed. (Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1; 8:58; Hebrews 1:8)
  • Jesus Christ is the Creator. (John 1:3; Colossians 1:16)
  • Jesus Christ proclaimed Himself to be God. (John 8:24, 58; 10:30) Scripture proves that Jesus Christ is God. (Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5, 14; Philippians 2:6; 1 Timothy 3:16)

The Works of Christ

  • Past Works of Christ
    • Miracles of Christ – (Matthew 8:23-27; 14:15-21; 14:26; Luke 5:1-11; John 2:1-11; 11:1-44)
    • Death of Jesus Christ
      • Jesus’ blood paid for all our sin. (Matthew 26:28; Hebrews 9:22, 28)
      • Jesus is our Substitute. (Isaiah 53:5-6; John 3:16; II Corinthians 5:21; I Peter 2:24; 3:18)
      • Jesus is our reconciliation. (Romans 5:10; II Corinthians 5:18-20; Ephesians 2:16; Colossians 1:20)
      • Jesus is our propitiation. (Romans 3:25; I John 2:2)
      • Jesus is our ransom payment. (Matthew 20:28; I Timothy 2:6)
    • Resurrection of Jesus Christ – (I Corinthians 15:3-4, 20)
    • Exaltation of Jesus Christ – (I Corinthians 15:42-44)
  • Present works of Christ
    • Christ is building His church.
      • Formation of the body – (Acts 2:47)
      • Nurture of the body - (Ephesians 5:29-30)
      • Cleansing of the body – (Ephesians 5:25-27)
      • Giving gifts to the body – (Ephesians 4:11-13)
    • Christ is praying for believers. (Romans 8:34; Hebrews 7:25)
    • Christ is preparing a heavenly abode for us. (John 14:1-3)
    • Christ is producing fruit in the lives of believers. (John 15:1-7)
  • Future works of Christ
    • Jesus will return (Acts 1:11)
    • Jesus will reign (Revelation 20:1-6)
    • Jesus will reward faithful believers. (Revelation 22:11-12)
