It is utterly amazing how God opens the doors to future ministry. One moment Kristy and I are praying about going to Western Europe or Guam the next thing we know God is ushering us off to Uganda, Africa to replace missionaries coming home for furlough.
God tells us in Isaiah 55:9, “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” God had a different direction for us to travel than what we thought. The 10 months in Uganda gave us valuable experience in practical missions. God put us through many difficult tests which opened our eyes to the hardships of life on the foreign field. But the hardships also brought on a much stronger faith in Him.
While in Uganda, we gained a close kinship with Keith and Sally Stensaas. They are ministering in a town called Masaka. Being only 2 hours from them, Kristy and I had the opportunity to visit often with the Stensaas’ clan. After a few short months, God put a burden in our hearts for the future working and helping Keith and his family in the ministry of Masaka. Keith has been working in Masaka for 6 years and God has blessed him with a church, radio station, institute and seminary. Having a desire for church planting and education, the needs of this ministry fit Kristy and I perfectly.
My roles in the Masaka ministry will be teaching in the seminary and institute, helping seminary grads start churches and building a Christian high school. There are 4 men attending seminary who, Lord willing, will be ready to plant churches upon our arrival to Uganda.
